Before you ever launch the configuration utility, you should spend a few minutes planning how you will use the CDR XL family radios in your system.
Will the radios be placed at fixed locations, or will they be mobile?
If you're placing radios at fixed locations, then consider making a map of your facility and planning where the radios will be placed, and which radio will be assigned which location code. This can avoid a lot of confusion later on.
Do you anticipate a need for one of the radios to act as a relay?
If so, then now is a good time to plan which radio groups will be located where.
How will data move from place to place?
Will a master radio poll the others for responses, or will all radios volunteer data asynchronously?
Will you broadcast data from one radio to several others, or will all communication be point-to-point?
Do you plan to use the transparent mode, or would you rather send structured packets?
Do you plan (or is it even permissible for you) to encrypt your data?
Will any group of radios communicate only among themselves, and not need to communicate with other groups?
